Merial has opened a new pharmaceutical research and development center in North Brunswick, N.J. The center will focus on both new and existing products for animals. The facility will employ up to 100 research scientists and bring all three of Merial's core scientific groups in the same building. Merial is a fully integrated animal-health and poultry-genetics company owned by Merck & Co., Inc. and Rhone-Poulenc S.A. Merial employs around 6500 people and operates in more than 150 countries, with 1997 sales exceeding $1.7 billion.
