Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association and Bayer Animal Health are providing ten outreach meetings around Texas during 1999. The meetings will feature presentations on live cattle selection, vaccination programs and the economic performance benefits of a quality health program. Town hall style forums will be held at each meeting to exchange information between attending ranchers and TSCRA staff. There will also be a legislative update from TSCRA Policy Analyst Rob Hosford, an update on the Texas Beef Council, and an opportunity for ranchers to tell TSCRA what they need from the association. "Many of our members find it hard to get away from the ranch and have asked us to provide more local meetings," says TSCRA President C. Coney Burgess. "We're making a concerted effort to do that, with 32 meetings scheduled in 1999." In addition to the 10 outreach meetings, TSCRA is holding eight ranch gatherings. They began in April hosted by Lawrence Harmel at his ranch in Seymour, Tex., followed by two gatherings in May at Steiner Ranches at Bastrop and at Alonzo Peeler's home at Jourdanton, Tex. Upcoming gatherings will be at the Leggett Lodge at Anahauc in mid September, and at Indian Mountain Ranch at Canadian on September 14. Other gatherings in Post and Fort McKavett are also scheduled. The ranch gatherings are sponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica and Hoechst Roussel Vet. They're essentially social gatherings, with lots of time for ranchers to meet, visit and enjoy good food and music. Five smaller versions of the school for successful ranching will also be conducted, along with nine regional beef quality programs with help from the Texas Beef Council. The outreach meetings are scheduled for June 8 in Henderson, June 10 in Bonham, July 20 in West, July 27 in Sulphur Springs, August 4 in Uvalde, August 12 in Halletsville, August 18 in Brownwood, August 26 in Bowie, September 15 in Crockett, and September 29 in Athens. There is no charge to attend the outreach meetings or the ranch gatherings; however, to help in planning please let TSCRA know in advance that you are planing to attend.
