A program called "Bridging the Gap" has recently been developed by the Colorado Cattle Association's Cattle Feeder committee to "...bring groups together to better understand each other and improve the overall beef business industry," said Clarence Newcomb, chairman of the CCA Cattle Feeder committee. The program is designed to help the producer learn more about cattle feeding operations and how to select and work with a feeder. The program also touches on risk management. It is designed to assist the producer in evaluating marketing options for calves and to better understand the fat cattle marketing process. "I've been involved in all phases of the meat industry, from the sperm to the steak," Newcomb said. "I know there are a lot of producers who don't understand the commercial feeder industry. By informing them of the process, it gives the ranchers an alternative option to consider for their calves to enhance profits." |
