If you're looking for a new way to buy and sell cattle, log on to CattleSale.com, where they are using the world wide web to help thousands of cattle find their home on the range. CattleSale.com is a licensed and bonded livestock dealer that is using the power of the Internet to combine the advantages of an open auction with those of a country deal. Revolutionizing the way cattle are sold, Cattle Sale.com provides increased market exposure, an extended marketing window and open bid pricing. Founded in 1998 by John Freeman, the website features a daily market entitled the "Country Page," that is open for trading five days a week. Regularly scheduled real-time auctions are also available on the site. During the first two months that the Country Page was on-line, more than 10,000 head of cattle were sold for a gross value of $5,517,751. Over 8,000 head have been sold during the auctions since the fall of 1998. How it works Interested producers are put in contact with a regional field representative. If the producer elects to consign, the agent visits their ranch to take photos and collect detailed biographical information including: base weight, delivery date, vaccination history, feed, breed, frame, muscle and condition. The data and photos are then posted in the on-line catalog and are available for review 24 hours a day. On the Country Page, the consignment is listed on the Index of Consignments with the seller's asking price clearly posted. Buyers have the option of accepting that asking price or placing a bid. Sellers then have the option of accepting that bid or adjusting their asking price. A transaction is complete whenever one party accepts the other's offer. The live auction is a scheduled event where bidding takes place over a predefined period of time. Each bidder sees their own unique buyer's card, which shows the current high bid on each consignment and lets them know if they are "in" or "out." After a predefined period of open bidding on all consignments, lots are closed out sequentially in approximately two-minute intervals. With an active base of over 100 registered buyers and a growing base of consignors, Cattle Sale.com is using the growing power of the internet to help ranchers to get the best price and buyers get the cattle they need. |
