Employee Management Seminar Topics Range From Competitive Compensation Packages to Conflict Resolution

For many years, Kansas State University Extension professionals have seen more and more agricultural producers struggle with human resource issues. One of the most frequent questions they hear is, "Can you do something to help me manage people?"

To help agricultural professionals deal with this growing challenge, Kansas State University has developed an Employee Management of Animal Agriculture Conference. The conference will be held in Wichita, Kansas on August 10-11, 2000.

Some of the top speakers in the nation will share their expertise on topics ranging from how to create a competitive compensation package to conflict resolution.

The speakers include Robert Milligan, a recognized expert in human resource management and professor of agricultural, resource and managerial economics at Cornell University. Bernard Erven, who pioneered the topic of human resource management in agriculture will also speak. He is professor of agricultural economics at Ohio State Univeristy. Sarah Fogleman will also contribute to the conference. She is an extension economist for the Southeast Kansas Area. She earned a Master's degree from Cornell Unviersty where she researched employee compensation and satisfaction in large dairies in the Northeast.

Four general sessions will be offered. They include business success through people-oriented management, creating a positive culture, building a reputation as an employer, and measuring and improving employee satisfaction.

There are also twelve break-out sessions that include conflict resolution, employee empowerment, minimizing legal risk, building teams as a staffing strategy, and others.

The seminar will provide a vision for farm businesses that developes and utilizes all of the capabilities of every employee, as well as information on what influences an employee's job satisfaction.
