Intervet has received regulatory approval to purchase the North American Bayer Animal Health Biologicals Business. The move increases Intervet's existing United States business and significantly expands the company's U.S. vaccine portfolio. The acquisition makes Intervet the third largest supplier of veterinary vaccines in the U.S. In the agreement, Intervet acquires two physical properties, in addition to the U.S. biologicals products. Intervet will acquire a production facility in Worthington, Minn., and a research facility in De Soto, Kansas. Intervet has also contracted with Bayer to lease the current biologicals facilities. Currently, Intervet says it expects approximately 150 former Bayer employees to join its ranks as a result of the agreement. The agreement marks the third major acquisition in the animal health market by Intervet in the past 14 months. Recently, Intervet also purchased Hoechst Roussel Vet and BTI. |
