Research Discovers that Cattle Over

Check Out Your Checkoff

Here's some items the checkoff is working on:

* Pharmacists in the Texas-division of Albertson's in-store pharmacies began providing beef nutrition information to their clients in a partnership with the beef checkoff program. The pharmacists will give their customers checkoff-funded beef nutrition and consumer education materials when they undergo counseling.

* Wal-Mart, and the Texas Beef Council told consumers at the chain's 1,700 stores nationwide how to smoke beef briskets to perfection. The education program was working to build demand for underutilized beef cuts using a variety of outdoor cooking methods. A colorful brochure on how to cook the perfect brisket gave step-by-step methods for cooking briskets, as well as recipes for seasoning rubs and barbeque sauces.

* Teens ages 10 to 12 received beef nutrition and preparation information from the beef checkoff program via Texas' YMCAs. The program taught teens how to eat well-balanced diets as well as how their families can benefit from many new convenient beef items.
