Research Discovers that Cattle Over

Farmland Introduces Fully Cooked and Seasoned Ground Beef

In the same way that fresh-cut salads revolutionized the lettuce industry, Farmland National Beef introduces a new product that they hope will dramatically change meal preparation and create a new market for the ground beef industry. Farmland Ground & Browned Fully Cooked Seasoned Beef is a fresh beef product that will be available in grocers' meat departments. National rollout of the product will begin in select markets in April.

Available in three flavors (original, Mexican and Italian) Ground & Browned is fully cooked, which means less time spent over a hot skillet and no greasy mess to dispose of either. It's ready to microwave and eat, or add to a favorite recipe, reducing preparation time for many meals.

"Our research has consistently shown that consumers want simple meal solutions," said David Hall, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Farmland National Beef. "At the same time, we know our customers want to maintain the tender and juicy homemade flavor of fresh ground beef. Farmland Ground & Browned does both. It's convenient and it offers the same delicious flavors our customers love."

Last year nearly five billion pounds of ground beef was sold at retail. Nearly 80 percent of test consumers indicated they would definitely or probably purchase Farmland Ground & Browned in the future. Convenience played heavily into that decision: 82 percent of test consumers cited convenience as a top motivator for purchasing Ground & Browned.

Farmland Ground & Browned, sold in the fresh meat case, is made from real ground beef; no filler products are used. The product will be marketed in a 12-ounce package, equivalent to one pound of uncooked ground beef. The package is resealable to retain flavor and freshness. Suggested retail price is $3.49.
