Bill Mies Joins Future Beef
William (Bill) Mies, a noted thought leader and long-time beef industry
advisor, has joined the staff of Future Beef Operations, LLC (Future
Beef) as Assistant Vice President of Supply. Mies is presently a full
professor in the Department of Animal Science at Texas A & M University.
He joined Future Beef on August 1st.
"Future Beef is dedicated to creating the most highly-rewarded and most
well-informed cattle supplier network in the industry", said Darrell
Wilkes, Vice President of Supply for Future Beef. "Bill Mies will play
a major role in working with our cow-calf network as it relates to informing
and educating these critical suppliers. He will work closely with Ronnie
Green, Future Beef's Assistant Vice President for Genetic Improvement,
in creating a comprehensive training and consulting service that will
help Future Beef's cattle suppliers achieve the highest level of success
possible."
"I cannot imagine a more capable team than Bill Mies and Ronnie Green,
when it comes to helping producers sort through the 'noise' in the marketplace
and choosing the most profitable course for their businesses," said
Russell Cross, CEO of Future Beef. "We are certain that Future Beef
offers more advantages for the progressive producer than any other program
in the industry today. Having Bill Mies on our staff adds a new dimension
to our ability to deliver those advantages."
Mies
has spent the last 14 years on the faculty of Texas A & M. Prior to
joining A & M, he worked for Alta Verde Industries and Friona Industries,
largely in the area of supply chain integration and management. He has
served on dozens of committees and task forces for NCBA and its predecessors.
He played a lead role in the now-famous (NCA) Strategic Alliance Field
Study, and has been a trusted advisor to the industry's Beef Quality
Assurance program since its inception.
"Wherever there
has been a leading-edge activity in the beef industry the past 15-years,
you can bet that Bill Mies has been involved in it," said Darrell Wilkes.
"Industry organizations by the dozens have called on him to sort through
the rhetoric and hype and arrive at bottom-line conclusions that are
practical and just make sense."
"I have enjoyed
my time at Texas A & M, and I dearly love to teach," Mies said. "I'll
continue to teach. The major difference is that my new students will
be grass-roots cattle producers all over the country. Future Beef is
a company that is actually doing all of the things that I have been
teaching and preaching about for a decade or more -- plus some innovative
things that I hadn't thought of. There is finally a company in the beef
industry that is truly committed to changing the way things are done.
It is an opportunity that I just could not resist."
Mies will work from his home office in College Station, TX, and can
be reached via e-mail (bmies@futurebeef.com) or by calling his home
