by Bob Strong, Editor The multiple attacks carried out against the United States of America on Sept 11, 2001, represent one of the greatest tragedies ever to befall our nation. At Feed-Lot Magazine, our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who was affected by these devastating events. My first thoughts after seeing the planes hit the World Trade Center were the same shared by many Americans "our world has changed forever." This is true for all Americans but devestatingly true for the victims and their families. Their world will never be the same; their lives have been altered forever. I remember as a child the two people coming up to our home, the looks on their faces as they told my mother that my older brother was missing at sea. An additional tragedy later, was when the same people came with the information that he was assumed lost at sea, his body was never recovered. Nothing before or after ever changed my Mothers life more and forever. We shall not and will not forget the September 11th tragedy and the world powers will not let those responsible go unpunished. We can make donations to the families of those directly involved and we can support our government in the effort to make the world safe from terrorists. Regardless of politics, just keeping to what the man said and how it fit at the time, in the midst of the depression, and how it fits now. In 1933, Franklin Roosevelt after being sworn into office, in his address to the nation said, "I am certain that my fellow Americans expect that on my induction into the Presidency I will address them with a candor and a decision, which this present situation of our Nation impels. This is preeminently the time to speak the truth. The whole truth, frankly and boldly. Nor need we shrink from honestly facing conditions in our country today. This great Nation will endure as it has endured will revive and will prosper. So, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself - nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror, which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance. In every dark hour of our national life a leadership of frankness and vigor has met with the understanding and support of the people themselves, which is essential to victory. I am convinced that you will again give that support to leadership in these critical days". We in the United States are fortunate to have the leadership in place, who have the determination and commitment to annihilate terrorism worldwide. "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." The unknown is said to be what we fear most. Change, and fear of change may be our greatest enemy. As individuals the most important thing we can do is put our efforts into keeping our jobs and businesses productive. Help each other as much as we can in our efforts to keep our world together. Change has taken place and we must face it, but holding to our course, doing whatever we do best and doing what we know must be done, should receive our greatest effort. Using the event of September 11th as an excuse to not do what we need to do, or conducting business in any manner other than the way it should be conducted is not acceptable. |
