eMerge Launches CattleLog, Joins Forces with Excel

eMerge Interactive, Inc. launched two new CattleLog(TM) individual-animal data-collection and reporting products at the NCBA Convention -- the CattleLog ME and CattleLog LT.

The CattleLog system is designed to help cattle operations source or process-verify and "de-commoditize" individual animals, according to CEO David C. Warren. "These electronically-tracked cattle help deliver the predictable performance that can streamline management, lower costs and improve profitability for every segment in the beef-supply chain."

"The CattleLog ME makes sophisticated tracking affordable even for small-scale producers," said Warren. "While the LT, which makes data collection virtually automatic, is designed for larger operations, for whom productivity and speed are major issues. These new products bring advantages to businesses of all sizes."

The resulting system allows users to add value to their livestock by attaching detailed, life-long specifications to individual animals--specifications covering everything from genetics to health management

Also introduced at the NCBA Convention was Excel and eMerge committment to join forces to finalize the company's VerifEYE(TM) meat inspection system. Technology promises to help meat processors detect contamination and verify extensive safeguards already in place to minimize the possibility of outbreaks of such bacterial infections as E. coli 0157:H7.

"Extensive, university-controlled trials have already demonstrated that VerifEYE(tm) could help packers minimize outbreaks of potentially deadly bacterial infections," Scott Mathews, eMerge President, said. "We're pleased that Excel has decided to help us integrate this technology into the production line - in essence, transforming our prototypes into a commercial system that will make whole-carcass scanning virtually automatic and practical."

The VerifEYE technology was developed and patented by scientists at Iowa State University and the Agricultural Research Service of the USDA. eMerge Interactive holds exclusive rights to its commercialization.

"Additional potential applications for this technology beyond the meat-packing plant include hand-scan units for use in facilities ranging from restaurants to hospitals and daycare centers," continued Mathews. ©
