2002 Beef Checkoff Audit Available

The Beef Checkoff Program accomplished a wide array of promotion, research and information objectives aimed at improving the marketplace for beef during the last year, according to the Cattlemen's Beef Promotion and Research Board. The programs are outlined in their 2002 annual report.

The annual report summarizes checkoff programs and provides detailed, audited financial information for the 2002 fiscal year, which ran Oct. 1, 2001 through Sept. 30, 2002. The report includes state-by-state checkoff revenue listings, and compares 2002 expenditures to those in 2001.

Checkoff programs in 2002 spanned a wide spectrum, from promotion of convenience and nutrition messages and products, to research efforts focused on beef safety and product enhancement, to a variety of issues-management and producer communications programs.

"During 2002, we invested checkoff dollars in a wide array of projects aimed at improving demand for beef and enhancing profit opportunities for producers," said Beef Board Chairman Dee Lacey. "Despite market challenges that we faced during the year, we were able to identify and capitalize on consumer trends and demands here and abroad, employing research and information to make connections from cattlemen to their end users -- consumers."

The annual report for 2002 can be accessed online (although it is a large file) at www.beefboard.org and clicking on the Financial & Audit button at the bottom of the page. Free copies are also available by calling 303-850-3465. ©
