Table BRD Results

This visual aims to underline the importance of understanding the treatment success of your bovine respiratory disease (BRD) treatment protocol. Data are from 14 U.S. feedlots from 2018-2021 and only include cattle diagnosed with BRD at each treatment. The top bar represents all animals that were treated for BRD at least one time and each subsequent bar includes cattle treated twice or three times. Cattle treated for three times for BRD had nearly half of the animals die after the third treatment. The first treatment success rate (percent that were not retreated and did not die) was 67% and the case fatality risk was 12.6%. These values could be useful for feedlot managers to calculate as they can provide a summary of how well their BRD treatment protocol is working.
